Ascension to the Throne
Following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Michael Folorunsho Segun Olobayo — a royal of the Ilajo clan who served as Obaro until his death in 2016 — the Okun traditional institution selected Solomon Dele Owoniyi as the next monarch. His appointment was formally ratified by the Kogi State Government in 2018, marking his coronation as the 44th Obaro of Kabba.

As Obaro, he holds a revered position among the Okun people, presiding over cultural rites, traditional councils, and community affairs across the Okun local government areas of Kogi State.

Role and Leadership
The Obaro of Kabba is regarded as the paramount traditional ruler among Okun Yoruba communities, which include Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa-Muro, Yagba East, and Yagba West local government areas. The Obaro serves as:

• Head of the Okun Traditional Council
• Custodian of Okun customs and heritage
• Mediator in communal and cultural matters
• Representative of Okun interests in state and national forums
